Training: Listening and responding to children affected by parental substance use (2 day course): 2 venues

28th & 29th November from 9.30am-4.30pm in Meeting Room, Stornoway Fire Station, Robertson Road, Stornoway
6th & 7th December from 9.30am-4.30pm in The Dark Island Hotel, Benbecula
Course Overview:
The aim of this 2 day course is to support practitioners to listen and respond effectively and appropriately to children affected by parental substance use.
By the end of this two day training session, participants will be able to:
- Identify the impact of substance use on children
- Describe the child’s cycle of change in parental use and recovery
- Discuss key issues in assessment of needs and risks of children affected by parental substance use
- Recognise the impact of change/recovery in children’s lives
- Identify ways to actively engage and hear young peoples’ stories
Aimed at:
- Practitioners and managers who’s work involves children and/or parental substance use
- Drug workers and children and families practitioners
- The broadest range of workers who have this contact, such as housing officers and criminal justice workers, will find this course useful
